Gulf of Mexico Synopsis - April 24, 2018 High pressure will continue to overspread the Gulf of Mexico throughout the day today as a cold front continues to move out of the eastern Gulf. High pressure will remain present throughout a majority of the week, which will keep winds at an easterly to southeasterly direction in the western Gulf, and an easterly to northeasterly direction in the central and eastern Gulf at gentle to moderate strengths. However, by Thursday morning, an area of low pressure will move eastward across the Gulf Coast states, with a weak cold front forecast to move southeastward into the Gulf from the Texas Coast. This will allow winds to shift to a more northerly direction, and slightly increase in speed to between moderate and near-fresh strengths. The front is expected to move completely through the Gulf by Friday, with high pressure building in behind it and sticking around for the remainder of the weekend and into much of next week.
