Scheduled Channel Closure (May 1-3, 2009)
Neches River, Port Neches, TX


RIVERFEST, an annual event sponsored by the Port Neches Chamber of
Commerce, is scheduled for May 1-3, 2009. Some RIVERFEST events take
place on the Neches River in the vicinity of Port Neches Park, including
boat races and a fireworks display.

The Captain of the Port, Port Arthur will enforce a Safety Zone adjacent
to Port Neches Park in Port Neches, Texas, during the boat races and
fireworks display. Specifically, no vessel may enter or remain in that
portion of the Neches River bound on the west by 30¢ª00¡¯00¡¯¡¯ N (near
the
old Harrison Refinery Dock) and on the east by 93¢ª56¡¯00¡±W (near FINA
upper
anchorage).

A safety zone will be in effect from 3 p.m. May 1 until 10 p.m. May 3,
2009. The Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will enforce
the regulations as follows:

May 1, 2009: 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
May 2, 2009: 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
9 p.m. until 10 p.m. (Fireworks)
May 3, 2009: 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
9 p.m. until 10 p.m. (Fireworks Rain Date)

Breaks in the race events have been scheduled to allow shallow draft
traffic to pass. Vessels desiring to transit through this area may
contact VTS Port Arthur on channel 13 or 65A VHF-FM or the on scene Coast
Guard vessel on channel 13 or 16 VHF-FM.

WEATHER

Isolated Showers Possible Into The Weekend.....

Onshore flow will continue with just an isolated shower possible. The
better risk for rain will be late Sunday into Monday as a cool front
nears from the northwest. Meanwhile, temperatures will stay about the
same with lows near 70 and highs in the lower to middle 80's.

Today.....Partly cloudy with a 10 percent coverage of light showers.
Highs near 80 to the lower 80's. Winds south to southeast at 6-22 mph.

Tonight......Mostly cloudy with a 10 percent coverage of light showers.
Lows near 70 to the lower 70's. Winds south to southeast at 3-15 mph.
