Subject:USCG MISB Sabine/Neches Channel

The USCG MSO Port Arthur has issued the following MSIB 40-06 regarding
shoaling around buoys 17 & 18 in the Sabine Bank Channel.


On November 23, 2006, two tanker reported touching bottom in Sabine Bank
Channel in the vicinity of Lighted Buoys 17 and 18. The reported shoaling
is approximately 400 yards north of the gated buoys in approximate
position 29-31.85W 093-43.4W. The drafts of the vessels were 37' 9" and
39' 1".

Mariners are advised to use due caution while transiting this area. The
Sabine Pilot are advising masters of the vessels with drafts over 37 feet
of the risks associated with navigating this area. The Army Corps of
Engineers will survey this area as soon as possible.

The Army Corp of Engineers has conducted a survey of the area and will be
issuing a report. Updated info is expected tomorrow morning. As soon as
the additional info becomes available same will be passed to all
